Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(bright orchestral music) - [Rosario] If I wanna try someone's pizza, I just try the plain pizza.
They have a good plain pizza, then everything else follows.
(rock guitar music) - I lived all over, and I've tried Manhattan, the Bronx, Queen's pizza.
The best pizza?
Right here.
- Everything we do here, like, there's a lot of prep involved.
Try to have the same person make each ingredient.
Like, for example, I got my dough guy, he only makes dough, you know?
I got my one guy that makes the marinara sauce.
So that way it can stay pretty much consistent.
- Food's delicious.
It's consistent all the time.
- I mostly like the pizza.
- It's really old fashioned.
- But I usually get like, on the normal pizza, just like, cheese and sauce.
- We just started making a sweet sauce pizza and that's been a huge hit.
I was never a sweet sauce guy.
We got it down really good, where I actually like it.
- What are you waiting for?
- I always get boxed, that's my favorite.
- I usually mix it up.
I like their steak and cheese pizza, plain pepperoni.
I really like their stromboli.
- Stromboli is pretty much a pocket of whatever toppings you want to fill.
- [Chef] Pagash, this is a typical pagash.
- Pagash or pierogi pizza, is basically mashed potato, and we like to put a little twist in it and also add a yellow, shredded cheddar cheese.
(rock music) Grandma's is the plum tomato sauce.
This is like the old way of making pizza, you know, like grandma used to make.
Margarita, it's just a basic pizza in Italy.
Margarita has the red, has the white and the green.
So that's like the Italian flag.
(gentle rock music) I was born in Sicily, we came when I was four, to United States.
Sicily is beautiful.
You know, the beaches, the culture, it's a breathtaking area, but it's hard to find work.
And then when you do find work they just don't pay much.
So you're basically living, you know, paycheck to paycheck just to, you know, put food on the table, you know?
So I guess my parents wanted us to have a better life, better future.
So I grew up in the pizzeria business, in my uncle's pizzeria.
Watching, playing with the dough, eating raw dough as a kid.
I guess, eating raw dough as a kid is better than eating glue as a kid.
But then I actually didn't get into business until I was 25.
- Being here all the time.
(upbeat rock music) - I think, since it's opened, I'm probably here at least once a week.
- We've been coming here for a while.
- Yeah, just on like, birthdays and after some games and stuff.
- That'll be one with everything, - I'm here when I'm not supposed to be here, so many times.
That's how much I like it.
'Cause it's like my home away from home.
My friends work here.
- I'm always here.
I mean, end of story.
- Rosario's.
(gentle music) - It feels good when you are able to employ people especially, that have families because you know, things are tough.
It's been tough for a while, it seems like.
It's nice to see people that you employ are able to feed their families or buy a new car, or just the simple fact that they can pay their bills.
- I enjoy my job, you know, not only because I make money of course, I make the money, but people are actually happy to see me.
Who's not happy to see their food coming to the door?
Orchard Road, Clark Summit, directions.
(device beeps) And away we go.
I love it because I'm just running around giving people their food and they're giving me their money.
And what better to come three minutes away, and a $10 tip?
I really like my job because Rosario, he's a good guy, he's very fair, and he treats me good.
I'm here whenever he needs me and, you know, I pay my bills like this.
- They feel confident that they can come to work and the work will always be here for them.
(gentle upbeat music) I mean, it is the land of opportunity.
I mean, look at the opportunities I had, you know?
I took advantages of the opportunity.
It's just much, much easier here in the US.
If you have goals, if you have dreams, you know, you can make it happen with a lot of hard work.
(gentle upbeat music)
