Shores are you ready for another K mission [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hi Jesse hi stake you want to come with me to learn about the US Coast Guard we'd love to come on let's go [Music] hello hello welcome to Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale I'm Kai nerys this is Cody mahalik thank you very much for inviting me today what are we going to be doing we're going to be doing a training search and rescue mission and we're going to release some sea turtles Cody here will take you guys and show you around terrific thank you so [Music] much what is the Coast Guard so the Coast Guard is one of the six branches of the military we are the oldest seagoing Branch we mainly do search and rescue so where we save people's lives sometimes do a little bit of law enforcement catch the bad guys but most importantly it's mainly just the safety of Americans for us and what type of rescues do you do so people who are stranded on boats um or maybe stuck in the water so it's mostly sea rescues that you're working on yes so if someone's stranded at Sea if their boat broke down if someone's drowning or having a problem they would call the Coast Guard yes we're we're normally one of the first people to get the call can you tell me about your uniform this is the operational dress uniform this is our daily working uniform it's what most people wear every single day when we're going out when we're on the boats are they generally blue in the Coast Guard yes most people you're going to see in the Coast Guard do wear this this exact same blue uniform I'm almost in the right we are matching so that's terrific I got got the black boots to um protect my feet I have my name right here the this states that I'm in the US Coast Guard and then I have these they're called my crows this tells people what rank I am what about your hat so it says Coast Guard some say what station you're at what kind of jobs do you do in the coast car there's all sorts of jobs you can drive boats you can fly planes you can fight fires you can do all sorts of things that sounds exciting stake come and join us Cody is going to teach us a really cool way that members of the US military show respect to each other can you please tell us why people salute and how do you salute of course salute is a way for all members of the military to show respect to people who are of higher rank than them and also the national flag it's quite easy you just bring your feet together like this always use your right hand with a flat Palm you bring it up right to your hat and then once you get a slute back is when you can bring your hand right back down it's EAS can we practice with you of course okay ready stri stand still Kid Vision kids you can salute too shiny will help us ready one two hand up hand down great job everyone follow me I'm happy to we always wear our life jackets on Coast Guard boats life jackets are buoyant they keep people afloat in the water they reduce drownings that is why they are mandatory on Coast Guard boats [Music] so we're going to be working with Gumbo Limbo Nature Center they're going to be coming out with us too to help us put the Turtles out in the ocean it is so amazing that the Coast Guard saves both people and animals like these sea turtles we are releasing the sea turtles into the ocean to make sure they are safe so these sea turtles are new baby hatchlings so we're just releasing these guys to get them um out into the ocean we will release a couple at a time they are 2 days old so 2 days old 2 days old so they just hatched on the beaches of bokeh this is a total of 119 loggerhead sea turtles that's great you're going to be happy you're going to live a nice long life yes yeah great so how do we release them so we are going to release them down down on the boat in the water right into the ocean great well let's take them out okay Kid Vision kids professionals like Sawyer and the Coast Guard are the only ones who should handle Wildlife if you ever see sea turtles in the wild leave them alone and never disturb a sea turtle [Music] nest so we're going to be doing some training practicing having a man in the water where we pick him up and then we're going to be doing a toe on a broken vessel this boat is our 45 ft response boat it's what we use for all of our R missions wow these boats are so cool we're ready now for the rescue [Music] mission here he is [Music] we got [Music] him he is saved [Music] hooray there it is that's the boat that needs our help you be primary Max be secondary you're going to be my Cs and my safety 26 the 39 we're getting ready to break the toe you set up for Port sides let me know when you're ready on day [Music] woohoo we got him that's [Music] good spe good 5 feet head up heads up on Sir hold on to your w [Music] Rog go ahead and Ste [Music] theck how many people work on that voter are they called crew members yes we take four crew members out so we have one coxon who's the boat driver an engineer who keeps it running and then two crewman who will help with everything else they work the ropes [Music] exactly we had a very busy day we learned about the Coast Guard we learned how to salute we learned about wearing a light KN jacket which is very important we got to go out into the ocean and release Turtles little baby turtles so that they can live nice long lives and then we came back and went out again to rescue someone who was in the water and learn how to pull a boat that is broken so that they can tow it in and they can fix it so many things stake even got to hose down the boat when we got back because cleaning boats after you get out of the ocean is really important to do to keep them up I want want to thank the US Coast Guard for all that they do I'm happy that our Kid Vision family and friends got to experience some of the ways the Coast Guard keeps us safe we are grateful for everything the Coast Guard and the military does for our country every day thank you for your service thank you so much for showing us about what happens at the Fort Lauderdale station thank you so much for coming it's been an absolute pleasure having you guys here they are water safety heroes whenever you meet a member of the US military thank them for their service K Vision kids you can even use some of the new words we learned while we were at the Coast Guard let's go to the Kid Vision classroom and find out what they were put on your thinking caps it's time to learn a new word Coast Guard the United States Coast Guard is the maritime branch of our military service its Mission includes security search and rescue law enforcement and protecting the ecosystems of our oceans what was that word Coast Guard good job salute a salute is a formal hand gesture that demonstrates respect to our American flag and in military situations to a higher ranking officer what was that word salute good job rescue boat a rescue boat is a water vessel designed and equipped to assist during rescue operations such as rescuing people from the water and boats that are in distress what was that word rescue boat good job sea turtle release the Coast Guard works with a variety of organizations to ensure the livelihood of endangered marine species such as sea turtles by releasing them safely and directly into the ocean what was that word SE release good [Music] job Kid Vision kids we have a very special guest with us today Dr Ron Tapper he's a veterinarian and he brought us something special today I heard today that you guys were learning about the ocean and about turtles so I decided to bring some freshwater turtles these are called yellow belly slider turtles you see their yellow belly the shell is their protect ction and their feet good for both walking and swimming yep they have they're webbed so they're very good at swimming but they also have toenails so they can actually use those to grab a hold and climb onto things then they got that little Tail as a Rudder are they good swimmers they're very very good swimmers very good swimmers how do you take care of them because these are aquatic turtles you you need to have some type of of aquarium uh that would have 75% of the space would be full of fresh water you'd have to have a platform for them to be able to get up out of the water and some type of a heating lamp um that they can get warm and uh in the environment and then special turtle food how big do they get uh these Turtles can get up to about this big um and can live somewhere between 20 and 30 years my goodness one of the most important things uh for children and even adults to remember is before you play with your turtles handle them make sure you wash your hands really well and then after you get done play with them you want to wash your hands very well so one we don't give them diseases and then two they don't give us diseases you know that's probably a good idea for All Pets very good idea absolutely that's terrific thank you so much for bringing them over you're welcome we've enjoyed visiting today yeah come again please I will thank you for having us great thank you Turtles it was wonderful to meet you bye way to go Kid Vision kids let's keep up the great work just like in a rescue mission you have to keep going until you accomplish your goal are you ready to make a big splash for our next field trip we're going to the beach to learn more about water safety it's time for a [Music] mission hi hi I'm Penny hi Penny I'm Robin from Hollywood Beach these are the Kid Vision VPK kids and we're here today for a beach day great great first thing we have to do is make sure everybody's safe let's see do you have your sunscreen on yes and I see you have sunglasses yes and hats yes and sandals great what else do we need to be safe at the beach I brought an umbrella so that we can have shade and water and water water good idea very good well come on let's go to the beach okay here we go wow here come the lifeguards they work out on the beach to stay in shape so they can protect us dayun in the sun when they see me drive by all the pretty girls stop and [Music] hi I'm Mike and I'm a hollow Beach lifeguard and I just want to show you some of the devices that we have that we use during rescues we have our standard orange buoy which all the lifeguards carry with them on a rescue we have our ATV which is not only do we used on the beach to enforce the rules but it allows us to get to a rescue very quickly on the beach we have our rescue board which is a long board this is used for a multiple victim rescue usually one two three four however many it could be and then we have our jet ski which is for usually if the rescue is very far out or if there's a boat that is in distress with P people on that need help the jet ski is a very good tool for getting there very quickly and just remember when you come to the beach always swim near lifeguard for your safety thank you very much no problem than for keeping us safe okay kids look at that we learned all about lifeguards we learned that lifeguards stay in shape that they take care of us and that they have safety equipment but one of the most important things is that you know how to take care of yourself at the beach to do that you might want to come over to the Lifeguard stand Meet The Lifeguard and find out what the rules of the beach are every Beach you go to has rules and they are post did on the Lifeguard Tower you can come over and you can read what the rules are for that beach to keep you safe rules keep people safe and if everyone knows the rules everyone will have a great safe day in the United States we have a flag system for the beach every Beach you go to will post a different color flag telling you the conditions of the ocean on that day the flag system works very much like the stop light red means stop you got that right yellow means slow down caution there might be something dangerous in the water green means go it's safe it's safe to swim purple is for dangerous marine life which could be jellyfish or Mana War double red this is the no swimming flag and we use this with the other red flag when there's lightning it means no swimming and clear the beach and seek shelter there's a lightning storm so if you see that flag flying on top of a lifeguard stand what do you do clear the beach clear the beach you're so smart that's that's right very good get out of the water now I have a question it is a beautiful day today what color flag do you think they should be flying today green very good and we are y we're flying a green flag today have fun at the beach great we get to go play at the beach it's a green flag day let's go here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] everyone find a Shell that you found on the beach today and let's look at them look this one and who can tell me about about the ocean yeah what is the ocean a big body of salt that's right a big body of salt water and regular water doesn't have salt water right does the ocean taste different than this yes yes how does it taste different because it's salty is that salty or this salty that's salty and is this salty no no so the sea water the ocean water is salty but drinking water is not salty it's fresh all right well did you have a great Beach day yeah are you ready to go would you like to play beach ball yeah [Music] [Music] put on your thinking caps it's time to learn a new word beach the beach is a Sandy Shore what was that word Beach good job lifeguard a lifeguard save saves you if you are in trouble in the water what was that word lifegard good job ocean the ocean is a large body of salt water what was that word ocean good job seash shell a seash shell is the protective covering of a sea animal what was that word d good job [Music] let's see if you can remember what we learned on the field trip I'm going to tell you the conditions of the water and then you tell me what flag would be flying are you ready okay oh no the water is very rough today and it's not safe it might even be lightning outside what color flag is flying at the lifeguard station red red that's right it's red red means stop it's not safe to go in the water good job Vision kids next flag now the water conditions they're a little bit rough and there might be some dangerous marine life in the water what color flag is flying at the Lifeguard stand yellow yellow you're correct yellow means be cautious be careful look around if you decide to go in the water but it's best not to and the last flag yay the water conditions are perfect it is a beautiful day to go out into the water what color flag would be flying shiny you're correct it's a green Flag Day let's go play in the water but be water smart with so many pools Lakes canals and beaches in South Florida you have to do your part and be water smart do your part be water smart if there is a pool and it has a gate walk away don't open it that would be great do your part be water smart don't go in in the water if you are all alone find a water Watcher to keep an eye on the Zone do your part be water smart you can learn to float but swimming is better you can find your lessons at the recreation center do your part be water smart do your part be water smart hooray everyone fantastic job that went swimmingly that's a vision accomplish good job Kid Vision kids way to be water smart and learn about water safety and now that we've achieved our mission it is time to clean up let's do it [Music] we
