We power life.
I'm Dina Carter, I'm a singer songwriter, and I'm from Nashville, Tennessee.
But my roots come from Louisiana, so my parents are Fred and Anna Carter.
They're from Winnsboro, Louisiana, and grandparents on both sides, aunts, uncles and cousins.
They're all over the state.
I was so blown away to be invited to perform here at the governor's mansion for the governor and first lady here in Baton Rouge, we got the request that it was a little bit earlier.
We were talking about how you have to plan these things in advance for them to ask for me to come.
It just meant so much to me, you know, outside of the music business side of it, it was just a personal, just touch my heart.
So I'm really happy to be here for their holiday celebration.
Certainly we want to welcome you all to our first, mansion Christmas.
We hope that your holidays are safe and that you have a great time.
We are proud to be able to partner with Lvb on this, this wonderful opportunity to have Dina Carter, come and perform for us.
We really do appreciate everyone who has participated in the Magic Foundation.
And so, without further ado, we're going to bring on Misty because she brought her brother here to.
And, and for us, this is real special, because when we think about how we started this year, with the, with the inauguration and the theme of Come Back Home, and we have worked all throughout this year to make sure that the people of this country know that Louisiana now has a big old welcome mat.
We want to welcome everyone who has left Louisiana back home.
And and to have dinner here is really special as well, because her parents grew up in Franklin.
Franklin parish, Franklin parish.
Winnsboro.
And, And so Louisiana is home, right?
And so tonight we, we celebrate with an unbelievable, country music artist who is going to welcome Louisiana back home.
And we couldn't think of a better way for you, to open up the, the first Christmas in the governor's mansion, for us and for all of those who have helped support Dementia Foundation and LPB.
And so we do appreciate it.
And we welcome you to the stage.
Thanks to thank you so much, governor and First Lady.
I'm so honored to be here.
I grew up in Nashville because my dad was the only one that left Louisiana to go be in the music business, but it was so important and close to his heart and my mother that, they would bring us to Winnsboro.
We never took a vacation.
We only came to Louisiana.
So every week, if we had a week off of school or, you know, we'd come.
They they farm cotton and, farmers and just such great people in the big family on both sides.
So I think I have 22 first cousins on one side.
And roughly the same a lot that I don't know on the other side because there's so many that were older and whatever.
But, I mean, we'd all get together.
Thanksgiving was our big time and we'd stay at my grandma's house and I'll just be together.
And it before the men would go to the woods, like I go hunting at my, papa's deer camp.
So means a lot to me.
Always will.
And I'm just so honored.
Thank you for inviting me to be here.
I want to introduce.
This is Gene.
I'm playing with this on the keys tonight.
And this is my husband Jim on the guitar.
And this is our last show of the year.
All right.
We've always been the best friends know.
See, when somebody's man's, let's say, lead them somewhere and be.
I see a different light around you.
One side.
I haven't told you.
I just want to hold you and never let go.
I need to know.
Yeah.
How do I get this here?
How do I make you say, how do I tell you my heart's been lost in your loving arms?
That's where I wanna be.
You know I love it.
How do I get there?
Well, you probably think I've lost my mind.
Take these chains crossing that line.
When I promise to be true and true.
Dreaming every night with these arms around you.
I can't wait any longer.
This feeling's getting stronger.
Let me find the way.
How do I get there?
To here?
How do I make you say?
How do I tell you when my heart's missing.
Then I lost in your loving arms.
That's where I wanna be.
You know what love is.
How do I get there?
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.
But I'm climbing a mountain.
And you want me to climb?
The perfect combination is your heart mind, darling?
I want to give me a slant.
How do I get there from here?
How do I make you see?
How do I tell you if my heart's beating?
Telling me and I'll send you.
Love knows that's where I wanna be.
You know maybe.
How do I get here?
How do I get there?
To here?
How do I make you say.
How do I tell you my heart's beating.
Telling me love's in your loving arms.
Let's play I wanna be you now.
Let me help you I can't be.
From here.
You know I love me.
And you I guess there I from here.
You know I'm loving you.
Oh.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
This is the number one song that I had.
And this was written about a relationship originally, but 30 years later, this is like what gets us through the seasons of our lives, right?
We've all been through so much, and I, we're so blessed to be in this time because we have such a positive era coming.
I'm so excited about what's on the horizon right?
I'm so grateful to live right now.
There's so many people that didn't get to see this time come in, and we were on this earth.
To see it is we just gotta remember that this Christmas.
Think about that.
Could it be different than you do?
The same old story.
Cause you're not the first to say you're gonna be there for me.
I need to know what's in your heart I.
Can you finish what you started.
How can I be sure I won't be sorry?
Be it for days and Jesus.
And settle down the part of the team you can count me around if we're talking about a game, I can win.
You can give me.
A win, you tell me I won.
I always knew when you don't know how much I'm wanting to be there.
But I've heard it all before.
Now make something move.
You make a promise is no good.
If you can't keep up.
If heartaches and keys and shadows of doubt.
Part of that you.
You can get me wrong.
If we're talking about a game I can't win.
You can tell me.
Not to.
But if you're dancing to shadows up dark a part of the deal.
You can calm down.
If we're talking it down a game I can't win a you can give me.
You give me.
A you can count me E e. Thank you.
Thank you so much.
We're gonna throw in a few Christmas songs.
Is that cool with y'all?
Everybody good?
You know, talking about Christmas, my dad played on a the Burl Ives Christmas music.
That's so cool.
Like the if you're watching that this holiday with your family or your kids, the frosty and the Rudolph and those things that Burl Ives did back in the day.
And, that's my dad on guitar playing, all that cool little.
It's really neat.
I did a record with my dad before he passed away called Father Christmas, and it's just guitar vocal.
It's really plain and simple.
But he was such a talented guy that I wanted to feature him more and just let his talent shine through, and he'd been sick when we did it, but it was such a tender, awesome project.
So I pulled a couple of those songs because it was so appropriate.
I'm dreaming of the white Christmas lights, just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten.
And children, it's nice to hear.
Sleigh bells in the snow.
I'm dreaming of the white Christmas.
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright.
And mail you Christmases be white I'm not lose you.
I'm dreaming of the white Christmas.
And just like the ones I used to know.
May your days be merry in.
Bring.
May and may all your Christmases be white.
Be.
Merry Christmas, be.
Even if you get this.
Thank you.
Flowers and white is what I found.
And what's mine.
When I came home from working tonight.
Well now here I stand.
Lover.
This Brian can.
And you won't the go white again I found these new heels.
Did my nails and my hair done just right I found this new dress.
Was it your back for romance tonight?
Well, let's play family.
Between the TV and beer, I won't get so much as a kiss.
As I head for the door, I turn around to be sure that I shave my legs for this.
And when we first met.
You promised.
We get a house on a highway in the.
Winds, trailers days away.
And.
And we're swimming in day and now you want me to go back to school?
I blew these new heels in my nails and my hair done just right.
I found this new dress was a sure bet for romance tonight.
Well it's perfect.
Look with you between the TV and be.
I won't get so much.
Has a key to.
As I head for the door, I turn around.
You'll be soon.
Did I shave my legs?
Then I shave my legs without shave my legs fully.
You know.
Thank you.
I remember the new pair of blue jeans.
A man, your beard should it?
Yeah.
You have no.
My favorite girl.
I knew it was.
I'm your man.
You picked me up in that mess line.
You're right on time.
At the radio one, it was playing a song.
We were leaving the world behind.
I want to remember that love feeling when we were young.
And our hopes for higher was something you could believe in.
Love was more than just a way before we ever give up.
That something I don't let.
Let me.
You gave me a ring on a chain.
There would never be another for me.
Tell me why you say everything.
Always have to try each other.
Won't you remember that loving feeling when we were young.
And our hopes behind a heart.
Was something you could be with you.
Love was more than just a word.
Before we ever have.
Goodbye.
Other.
Things.
To.
Do I want to remember that loving feeling.
When we were young.
And our hopes behind a heart.
Was something you could see.
There.
Love was more than just day before we ever did.
But our.
Goodbyes and it.
You who you.
Ooh.
Thank you.
You be.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
Jack Frost nipping at you now.
Yuletide carols being sung by choir and friends.
Dressed up like Eskimo knees.
Everybody knows the turkey in some small town.
Seemed to make the season brightly.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow.
Will find it hard to see things.
They know that sing dance songs when.
These lonely lights.
The toys and goodies on its way.
And every mother's child is gonna spend.
To see the reindeer will end up at a sleigh.
Inside.
I'm offering a simple free ice to kids from 1 to 19.
Have both been said many times.
Many ways.
Merry Christmas.
It's too easy.
In some.
I'm all for simple friendliness and to kids from London.
I'm delighted to be here.
Although it's been said many times, many ways.
Merry Christmas is Merry Christmas is Merry Christmas to you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I wrote this song with my friend Matt Reiser, and I lived in California for 20 years.
That's the car.
I deserve a degree or something.
Run!
But I did.
I lived in California.
It meant a lot to me.
But I wrote this song with her when I lived out there, and it's got some California references, which is why I say this.
And I went on tour after I recorded this and put a record out and, I sang this song on tour with Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban.
It was a great tour that we did, and they'd come out and watch me do the song and then got ready for the show, like we all do.
And ten years after I recorded this song, one of those guys took this and made it a huge hit.
And so, you know, his version of this song, and I'm so grateful and so proud of this song, I love it.
It's my heart.
And, some things I went through, but it's so wonderful to hear, especially from a girl's perspective.
You know, men and women, we experience all these same feelings.
And to hear, a guy express the same feelings in his own way, that was really special to me.
So we're going to do that one for you, and you're going to hopefully recognize this.
Here I am with you kicking.
Dustin, can we waiting for that song to go do.
Amazing.
Love Mulholland drive.
Hell bent on getting high I love the light.
You.
You and tequila make you crazy.
You're like poison in my blood.
One more night.
My kill me baby I want you to make one.
More is never enough for me.
You.
For 30 days 39 to be good number you.
Good side.
There were times I found you the way.
It is in these jeans.
Forget the bitter taste.
The morning.
Let.
I swore I wouldn't go back there again in.
You in tequila made me crazy.
You.
You're like poison in my blood.
One more time I kill me, baby.
What is love to me?
One more is never enough.
When it comes to you.
Oh damn.
Day to day.
It's always your favorite scenes.
The do me.
Me.
Me.
You and kill me.
Be crazy.
You're like poison in my blood.
One more time I kill me, baby.
One is one too many.
One more is never meant.
In sin.
Never nothing.
No.
You went to kill the baby.
Yeah, yeah yeah.
Oh, you.
You you you.
Thank you.
Can't you just be one game?
He's so much.
I have to do a an honorary, I guess, honoring our Lord for this season.
Because that's why we celebrate this season.
And I'm not sure about how grateful I am about that.
And it's so important for me personally to acknowledge that, with all the gifts he's given us, all.
And so I want to do Silent Night.
If y'all wanna sing along.
Silent night, Holy night.
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy infant so tender.
And my sleep in heavenly peace.
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, Holy night.
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Lee V from the Holy Face.
With the down.
Every day ways Jesus learned that there Jesus the let that be.
And Jesus learned that birth Jesus Lord, at thy birth.
And to me.
All right.
This song, so much fun.
We did this video in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in case you were wondering.
Okay.
The summer.
It was heavy and sweet.
You know, on the street there was music everywhere I can see.
And way in a happy little fun town.
Where the stars are upside down a half world away.
Far, far away I remember you laughing.
We were so in love.
We were so in love.
The band played song we had never heard.
But we danced anyway.
We never understood the words.
We inside.
Oh.
La la la la la la la la la la.
And the danced anyway.
He.
They say you can't go back.
Oh, baby, I don't believe that.
Oh, come along with me.
Come on and dance with me.
Well, maybe they hold you close.
They the baby just let go of these things.
The tide is down.
We come back A rhythm.
You remember we were laughing.
We were so in love.
We were so in love.
In the band that songs.
If we had never heard.
And we danced anyway.
We never understood the words.
We just like, La la la la la la la la la la la la.
And we danced anyway.
We.
You remember?
We were laughing.
We were so in love.
We were so young.
And the band played songs.
And we had never really danced in a way we never understood.
The words were dance.
I, Na na na na na na na na na na.
Oh.
And we danced anyway.
We, You.
Thank you, thank you.
We any trips down memory lane right now?
Little bit, a little bit.
All right.
We're going to do, the one that you might know the most or you're most familiar with.
And, like, a fun one, y'all.
This just gets better with age, right?
We have some wine lovers here, don't we?
Yes, yes.
We just did an Apertura love last month.
Another one.
I saw the amazing fridge is in the back.
I'm like, that's what we need for all of our wine.
With all this great wine.
Come in.
So, anyway, you all sing with us.
He was a giddy college.
Oh, my grandpa's my.
I was hosting tonight live.
And he had a come.
Yes, count.
Somewhere between here.
Manager one reigns and some.
We found a growing world on the banks of the rivers.
The wrong way.
All these bad.
It's funny how those memories are last.
Like shrubbery.
The heart.
You like me.
So everything.
My first taste of love.
Some home bitter sweet and green.
All the.
Like shrubbery like me and you.
Well, I still let me.
When 40 was alone.
My biggest me sitting there.
When he had to give you a few cards in letters in one long distance.
Go.
We drifted away like the leaves.
It was wrong.
But year round, the year I come back to this place.
Just to remember the day.
Waste of shrubbery.
One and 17 is the heart.
You love me so well at night.
My first taste of love.
So bitter, sweet and green on.
Like you.
Like straw I believe you.
The fields he grows are now years and sweet.
Save love life.
And there's nothing.
Retirement plans.
Is invisible 3000 minus six I mean, it's slim summers.
Yeah.
Hey, darling.
Do.
To.
You.
Straw Berry.
I and 70 the heart.
You love me so.
Everything I thirst.
He's to me love to whole bitter sweet and green.
Home life to you like likes.
Believe you I mean.
Shrubbery up and.
Thank you, thank y'all.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Oh my gosh.

That couldn't make it.
I know that was a tough day today.
So we pray for your vice safety and the blessed holiday.
All right.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Let your heart be like from now on, the troubles will be at a sunny.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Make the you tight.
Keep.
For now on our troubles will be miles away.
Here we are as in olden days.
Happy golden days of your faithful friends who are dear to us.
Gather near to us once more.
All to is we always be together.
If the fates align from the shining star among the highest up.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Now we do, do do do.
But.
Please turn it around.
Right hand.
Here we are.
As in olden days.
Happy golden days of you are faithful friends.
You are due to us.
Gather near to us once more.
All through the years we all will be together.
If the fates allow.
Hang a shining star among the highest for us.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas.
And, Maybe Merry Christmas to me.
Be with me.
Boom.
Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom.
I love y'all so much.
Merry Christmas.
How about we give it up for Dina Carter, We, we certainly want to thank LBB because, Dina, I want you to know this is the best behave.
I've seen this crowd ever.
It's amazing when you bring some cameras around.
They actually act like adults.
But, we again want to really, share.
And I want to thank you all for all that you've done, for us and for making this year a special year.
And, we believe that this holiday season is just the beginning of a great time here in Louisiana.
And we do appreciate, you coming.
And you're welcome to come in play any time you want.
If you find yourself coming down in a state and you looking for a drink, you just bring the guitar and we'd be more than happy to feel good up there.
Thank you all so very much.
Twas the night before Christmas.
And all through the house they don't let thing pass.
Not even a mouse.
The chairman business was good.
Snug on the floor.
And mama passed into Peppa.
Chewed a crack in the door.
Then mom in the fireplace.
Then rose up.
Ahem.
Stirred up the gumbo and make baked the yam.
Then out on the bayou they got such a clatter.
Make sound like old Boudreaux doesn't fall off his lap.
I run like a rabbit to got to the door, tripped over the dog and fell on the floor as I looked out the door in the light of the moon.
I think when you crazy or you got old too soon because they're in the bayou.
When I stretch my neck stiff, there's eight alligators, a pullin a skiff, and a little fat drover with a long poling stick.
And I knew right away got to be Old Saint Nick.
Mufasa.
Mufasa.
The gator.
They came.
He whistled in Holland.
Called him by name.
Hagar stole a hot tea boy up here in Alice Jean.
And then Jesus said, Celeste and Rene to the top of the porch.
To the top of the wall may crawl, alligator, and be sure you don't fall like thought flows.
Cut to the top tree.
He fly when the big open door come.
Rushing his self by like that of the porch.
The mule gators clam with the skiff full of toys.
And say Nick, behind into the top of the porch roof.
It sound like the hell when the big gators that sat down their tail.
Then down the chimney, I went with a band and say, Nick fell and sat on the yam Sacré.
He is clean my pants.
Got a whole other set of myself on them red hot go.
He got on his foots and jumped like a cat and out to the floor.
When he lay with a splat.
He was dressed in muskrat from his head to his foot.
In his clothes is all dirty with ashes.
It's a a sack full of play.
Things he throw on his back.
He looked like a burglar and that's for a fight.
His eyes had a shot and his dip while Mary.
Maybe he'd been drinking the wine from the blackberry.
His cheek was like rose, his nose like a cherry.
On second thought, maybe he lapped up the cherry with snow white chin whiskers and equivalent belly.
He shook when he laughed like strawberry jelly, but a wink in his eye, and he shook his head.
Make me confidence that I don't have to be scared.
He don't do no talking.
Going straight to his work.
Put playthings in a sock and then turn.
What a jerk.
He put his boot on his hand, then the top of his head.
He cast a nod to the chimney.
And he done said what?
All that far in in burning hot flame.
He ain't going back to win.
And I came it.
So you run out the door.
And he cling to the roof.
And he a fool in him.
For to make one more goose.
He jumped in his skiff.
And he cracked his big whip.
The gator moved down.
And don't make one slip.
And I heard him shout as a splash.
And he go.
Merry Christmas to all till I see you some more.
Merry Christmas, Louisiana.
